STURDIVANT -- Ivy "Vernice" Buttry, 85, of Sturdivant died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997, at the Heartland Care Rehab Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Swinton, the daughter of Arb and Mamie Hayden Cooper. She married Arnold "Pete" Buttry on June 28, 1930, in Marble Hill. He died May 26, 1972...

STURDIVANT -- Ivy "Vernice" Buttry, 85, of Sturdivant died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997, at the Heartland Care Rehab Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Swinton, the daughter of Arb and Mamie Hayden Cooper. She married Arnold "Pete" Buttry on June 28, 1930, in Marble Hill. He died May 26, 1972.

She was a homemaker.

She was baptized in the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Simmers of Sturdivant; two sons, Clinton Harry Buttry of East Alton, Ill., and James Blois Buttry of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Verlia Cooper of Delta and Ella Jean Garrett of Fairlane, Okla.; 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Johns officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
