Vernetta Chappell

Vernetta Lois Chappell, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Ratliff Care Center.

She was born Dec. 18, 1923, in Sikeston, Missouri, to Schuyler and Rita P. Lewis Bradley. She and Raymond W. Chappell were married Jan. 30, 1959, in San Jose, California. He preceded her in death in 2011.

Vernetta was a dedicated and active member of Christ Church of the Heartland.

Survivors include a son, Marvin Ray (Jill) Chappell of Westland, Michigan; a sister, Gaye Wolferding of Orlando, Florida; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Bryan Godsey, Andrew Raymond and Timothy Marvin Chappell; and a special friend, Cindy Knudtson of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at noon today at the funeral home, with Zach Strong and Judy Nilsen officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Christ Church of the Heartland.
