ADVANCE -- Vernas R. Abernathy, 67, of Advance, died Monday, April 24, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 3, 1927, at Painton, son of Ed and Myrtle Boyd Abernathy. He and Betty Avett were married Sept. 13, 1951, in East St. Louis, Ill. She died July 12, 1975. He later married Ercie I. Markham Oct. 9, 1982, at Gordonville.
Abernathy was a retired farmer and construction worker. He was a member of International Laborer's Local 1104 in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Keith Abernathy of Columbia; a daughter, Lynae Siler of Fisk; a stepson, Jiles Markham of Cape Girardeau; three stepdaughters, Willadean Brown of Cape Girardeau, Janet James of Sturdivant, Olive Wallace of Lowndes; two brothers, Vernon Abernathy and Hubert Browning of Kinder; three sisters, Lucille Walker of Arab, Betty Poe of Sturdivant, Rosemary Stroup of Puxico; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eldo Eaker officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery at Marble Hill.
