Verna Whitticre

Verna M. Whitticre, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Cape Girardeau to Marvie and Stella Statler Smith. She and Lester Paul Whitticre were married March 27, 1948, at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death March 19, 2017.

Verna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Melinda) Whitticre of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Virginia Davis of Cape Girardeau; sister-in-law, Ann Smith of Valdosta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Randy (Angela) Whitticre of Fruitland and Jennifer (Shawn) Royle of Gordonville; two great-grandchildren, Avery Whitticre of Fruitland and Louis Royle of Gordonville; a niece, Donna Komerech of Cape Girardeau; and a nephew, Rodney Davis of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
