Through family members, she became acquainted with Arnie Wachter, and they were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown. In April 1956, they moved from the farm in Uniontown to Jackson and transferred their church membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

As a wonderful "family mother," Verna enjoyed Bible study, playing cards, dancing, sewing and cooking, especially for her granddaughters.
