Verna Mae Cobb Thompson, 79, of Jackson died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at her home.
She was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Marble Hill, Mo., daughter of Henry and Dora Walker Cobb. She and Norman Thompson Sr. were married Dec. 22, 1943, in Chaffee, Mo. He died June 23, 1969.
She was a lifetime member of First Church of God in Cape Girardeau, had worked at Blue Hole Bar-B-Que, Denny's IGA, and retired from Wal-Mart as a greeter.
Survivors include two sons, Norman Thompson Jr. and wife Linda Marie of Jackson, Robert Thompson and wife Emma Joe of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Penny Bauman and companion Eric Sonnicksen of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; a brother, John Cobb and wife Monica of Belton, Mo.; a sister, Virginia Buttry and husband James of Cape Girardeau; a stepbrother, Jake Cobb of the state of Colorado; six grandchildren, Chris Thompson, Jeremy Thompson, Kara Thompson, Mathew Bauman, Patrick Bauman, Jennifer Thompson; and three great-grandchildren, Sam Bowman, Noah Bauman, and Mackenzie Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandchild, Dava Bowman; two brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
