VERNA PEWITT

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Verna Virginia Pewitt, 101, formerly of Van Buren, Mo., died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born Aug. 31, 1899, in Miami, Okla., daughter of Charley and Lucy Murray Crow. She and Seaton Pewitt were married in 1919. He died in 1969.

Pewitt had lived in Kansas City, Belton, Waynesville, Chamois, Linn, and Van Buren in Missouri. She owned and operated a funeral home in Van Buren several years. She was a member of Eastern Star and Ellington Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Charles Pewitt of Ellington, Mo.; a daughter, Lena Kliethermes of Jefferson City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, six sisters, and three brothers.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ellington Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Barron Willer will officiate.

McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
