Verna Mae Kelly, 82, of Scott City died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Edna, Mo., to Rufus Roy and Ethel Angelyn Stone Sanford. She married John J. Kelly July 11, 1945, in Ancell. He preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1994.
Verna was a short-order cook and a riverboat cook.
Survivors include a son, John J. Kelly III of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Patricia Foster and Vickie Ross of Commerce, Mo., Sandra Kay Samples of Portage Des Sioux, Mo., Judith Mayberry of Scott City; two brothers, Rufus "Sonny" Roy Sanford Jr. of Benton, Mo., Paul Sanford of Brownwood, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, two brothers, two sisters, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from noon to service time Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jack Owens officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
