Schaffer, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at City Care Center in Cobden, Ill.

He was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Columbia, Ill., son of August and Sophia Naumann Schaffer.
Schaffer was a retired cabinet maker. He was a member of First Christian Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce and Barrie Schaffer of St. Louis.
