ANNA, Ill. -- Funeral service for Vern Leroy Gurley of Lick Creek will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. The Revs. Steve Wilkinson and Jay Franklin will officiate, with burial in Anna Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
Gurley, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 1996, at his home.
He was born April 9, 1915, in Union County, son of Nedom and Ada Roberts Gurley. He and Anna Pauline "Pete" Casey were married Aug. 19, 1933.
Gurley had farmed all his life in Union County, had owned Fashion Land in Anna, and had been an Allis Chalmers equipment dealer.
He was on the board of directors and a past president of Interstate Producers Livestock Association, member and had served on the board of Illinois Agriculture Association, and was a past president of Union County Farm Bureau.
Gurley was a member of Ebenezer Hall Cumberland Presbyterian Church and attended Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna. He was also a member of Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge 1641.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Myra Bowen of Lick Creek; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and a great-granddaughter.
