DESLOGE -- Verlon C. James, 77, of Desloge died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, in an automobile accident in Jefferson County.
He was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Floral, Ark., son of Ollie and Elsie Pierson James. He first married Dorothea Waller, who preceded him in death. He later married Joyce Sikes, who also preceded him in death.
James was co-owner of Federal IGA in Park Hills. He was a member of Desloge United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 154 AF&AM, and lifetime member and charter member of Mineral Area Community Elks 2583. He was a past president of Park Hills Rotary Club.
Survivors include a son, Dennis James of Jackson; a daughter, Ruth Holdman of Cape Girardeau; three stepdaughters, Cheryl LaChance, Susan Fanning and Cindy Constance of the Farmington area; a stepson, Steven Hicks of the Farmington area; a sister, Voncille Kimmer of Bald Knob, Ark.; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.
Friends may call at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Desloge United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Darrell McFarland officiating. Burial will be in Marvin Chapel Cemetery.
