Verla M. Schreiner, 81, of Jackson passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Jan. 12, 1928, in Patton, Mo., daughter of Henry and Nola Brotherton Gallup. She and William C. Schreiner were married Oct. 24, 1947, in Jackson.
Verla graduated from Jackson High School in 1946 and worked at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill from 1946 to 1976. She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson since 1947 and was active in various church organizations. She had been in Jackson Manor Nursing Home since 2006.
Loving survivors include her husband of 61 years; a son, Steve (Donna) Schreiner of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Tom (Kelli) Schreiner of Kimball, Minn., Tracy Schreiner of Cape Girardeau; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New McKendree Food Pantry.
