BLOOMFIELD -- Vergie M. Monroe, 80, of St. Louis, died Monday, Aug. 5, 1991, at Bethesda General Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born March 12, 1911, in Stoddard County, daughter of Thomas Andrew and Lillie O. Cox Smith. She married Riley Monroe, who died June 28, 1977.

Formerly of Bloomfield, she had lived in St. Louis 51 years. She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church there, its 50 Plus Club, and the Democratic Ladies.

Survivors include three sons, Bob and Jim Monroe of St. Louis, Bill Miller of Cleveland, Tenn.; two daughters, Virginia Hammond and Dorothy Kern of St. Louis; a brother, Elvin Smith of Bloomfield; two sisters, Ruby Del Santo of Branson, Lois Watkins of Bloomfield; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Harold Ferrell will officiate, with burial in Oak Ridge Church Cemetery near here.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service.
