DEXTER, Mo. -- Vergie Coleman, 72, of Dexter died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Vintage Villa Nursing Center in Dexter. She was born Dec. 6, 1928, at Ridgley, Tenn., daughter of Edgar and Lelia Thurman. She was a former resident of Fairdealing, Mo., and Doniphan, Mo., but had lived at Dexter the past six years. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Center Hill, Mo. She was a member of the Order of the Golden Rule...

DEXTER, Mo. -- Vergie Coleman, 72, of Dexter died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Vintage Villa Nursing Center in Dexter.

She was born Dec. 6, 1928, at Ridgley, Tenn., daughter of Edgar and Lelia Thurman.

She was a former resident of Fairdealing, Mo., and Doniphan, Mo., but had lived at Dexter the past six years. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Center Hill, Mo. She was a member of the Order of the Golden Rule.

She and Benson Coleman were married Oct. 6, 1945, at Piggott, Ark. He died Jan. 20, 1994.

Survivors include three sons, Stephen Coleman of Charleston, Michael Coleman and Rickie Coleman, both of Dexter; a brother, Leonard Thurman of Jackson, Mo., a sister, Doris Hornbeck of Joplin, Mo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandhcildrern.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Max Raney officiating. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery at Fairdealing.
