ADVANCE, Mo. -- Verdell Cato, 81, of Advance passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 7, 1931, at McGee, Mo., son of Charlie and Edna Stephens Cato.
Verdell retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service.
He was a member of Shadydell General Baptist Church, and Masonic Lodge in Bell City, Mo.
Survivors include a son, James Cato of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Jackie (Bill) Bogardus of Clarksville, Tenn.; a brother, Don (Glenda) Cato of Advance; two sisters, Ann (Hank) Kempf of Bridgeton, Mo., Carolyn (Bud) Walker of McGee; and two grandchildren, Derek Bogardus and Will Cato.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Cato.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ray Placher officiating, assisted by Roy Haynie. Burial will be in McGee New Hope Cemetery in McGee, with full military rites.
