Verda Hines, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at her home.
She was born Nov. 9, 1910, in New Madrid County, Mo., daughter of Augustus and Margaret E. Caldwell Smith. She and Robert C. Hines were married June 2, 1933, at Lilbourn, Mo.
Hines had lived in Cape Girardeau since 1943. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University. She had been a teacher at Juden School in Cape Girardeau, at Delta and Jackson schools and at May Greene School. She retired in 1973 after 26 years of service. She was a member of First General Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert G. "Bob" Hines of Hillsboro, Mo.; a daughter, Mary Taylor of Climax Springs, Mo.; a brother, Roscoe Smith of Dalton, Tenn.; two sisters, Estella Ragsdale of Sacramento, Calif., Martha Conley of Rockville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, five brothers and six sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Sam Ramdial will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston, Mo.
