OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Vera Jones, 100, of Olive Branch died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, April 10, 2016, at her home.

Vera was born Jan. 29, 1916, in Monroe Center, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Ella Baumgarden Berkheimer. She married Robert Jones, who preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1976.

In 1948 Vera and her husband moved to Olive Branch, where they bought the Twin Gables Restaurant and Station, which now is known as Kozy Korner Cafe and Jones Service Station. Her son, Bobby, continues to operate the business.

She was a member of Alexander Free Will Baptist Church near Thebes, Illinois, for over 40 years. Vera was a beloved member of the Olive Branch community.

Vera is survived by her son, Bobby (Helen Jo) Jones of Olive Branch; a daughter, Barbara (Kenneth) Guthrie of Machesney Park, Illinois; five grandchildren, Tom (Vicki) Guthrie of DeKalb, Illinois, Amanda (Franklin) Pace of Sanford, North Carolina, Matt (Kayla) Jones of Springfield, Missouri, Ashley (Nick) Swoboda of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Nathan Jones of Olive Branch; and three great-grandchildren, Breonna Pace, Simone Guthrie and Connor Pace.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Jones; a granddaughter; a grandson; and six siblings.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Illinois, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Alexander Free Will Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Henry Potter officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
