Vera I. Farrow, 101, of Jackson passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 12, 1915, in Perry County, Missouri, to John C. and Esther Cox Davis. She and Arnold W. Farrow eloped March 12, 1937, to Benton, Missouri. They had been married nearly 48 years when Arnold passed away Feb. 15, 1985.

Vera was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. She worked briefly at the former Dorsa Dress Factory in uptown Jackson, but what she really enjoyed was babysitting in her home. Some of her other favorite activities were sewing, quilting, gardening, canning and wordsearch puzzles.

At the age of 101, Vera still was able to enjoy the freedom and independence of living alone. Her daughters especially will miss the frequent visits they shared at her home.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Marcella (the late J.D.) Green and LaFern Judd, both of Jackson; five grandchildren, Debbie (Kevin) Schearf of Jackson, Jennifer Elliott, Michele (Robert) Housman of Sikeston, Missouri, Chris (Racquel) Green of Jackson and Stephen Green of Jackson; five great-grandchildren, Makala Elliott, Justin Green (fiancee Megan Twomey), Braxton Green, Colton Housman and Brandon Housman and his son, Weston Housman.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Jerry Farrow; and eight siblings, Mildred (Everett) Brown, Homer (Norma) Davis, Henry (Lucille) Davis, Zeta Putz, Lillian (Evert) Weber, James (Bonnie) Davis, Amos (Thelma) Davis and John Davis.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to service time Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crossroads Church or First Baptist Church, both in Jackson.
