Surrounded by her family, Vera Ida Allen, 88, of rural Jackson passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019, at her home.
Born Sept. 7, 1930, near Tilsit, Vera was the eighth of nine children born to Alvin M. and Amanda Lange Birk.
Vera was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit, also the church of her baptism, confirmation and marriage.
She and Murel Allen were married March 30, 1952. They had been married 44 years when Murel passed away April 19, 1996.
Vera was a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School. She worked at the Jackson Hosiery Mill, Shaper's IGA Foodliner and was a substitute rural mail carrier, but she especially enjoyed farming with Murel and spending time with the grandchildren.
Loving survivors include two daughters, Cathy (Mark) Bonneville of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Janet Allen of Scott City; seven grandchildren, Cara Sue Allen of Cape Girardeau, Rachel (Ryan) Laughlin and Katie, Brian, Sarah, John and Daniel Bonneville; and a brother, Nelson (Mary) Birk; a brother-in-law, Mike (Barb) Allen; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth (the late Walter) Aufdenberg and Judy (the late Larry) Allen.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and seven siblings, Gerhard Birk, Alfred Birk, Vanita Spooler, Hulda Sievers, Alma Mouser, Laura Nagel and Elverda Allen.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Loren Boettcher officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Cemetery.
