Velma Slaughter

Velma Slaughter, 95, of Delta died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at the Advance Nursing Center.

She was born May 28, 1912, at Hahn, Mo., the daughter of King and Ella Deck Gaines. She married Verman Slaughter Sept. 4, 1937 in Zalma, Mo. He died Sept. 10, 1994.

Velma was a member of Berrong General Baptist Church near Gipsy.

Survivors include a brother, the Rev. Heuda Gaines of Alton, Ill.; and two sisters, Carna Watkins of Cape Girardeau and Yulanda Simons of Sioux City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, Mo.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Rudy Pittman officiating.

Interment will be in Berrong Cemetery in Gipsy.
