Velma Sams, 95, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 26, 1907, at Columbus, Ky., the daughter of George and Lala Gardner Lochridge. She married Clois W. Sams on March 17, 1924, at Charleston, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1963.
Sams was a Methodist and a former employee of A&P Tea Company. She was a resident of Dexter, Mo.
She is survived by a son, Winiford D. Sams of Fenton, Mo.; a sister, Mildred Diebold of Kelso, Mo.; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Andrew Lovins officiating.
Burial will be at the Burkley Cemetery at Bardwell, Ky.
