Velma Lou Lannom, 83, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Trenton, Tenn., daughter of Guy and Anna Baird Carr. She and Clomer H. Lannom were married Dec. 24, 1946, in Trenton.
Velma and Clomer moved to Jackson in 1991 from Puxico, Mo. Being raised in a Christian atmosphere all her life, she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, as well as the Sunday school classes, church choir and Joy choir. She had a green thumb and enjoyed planting and flower gardening.
Loving survivors include her husband of 64 years; a son, Lanny (Elaine) Lannom of Jackson; a sister, Julia (Bill) Butler of Milan, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Brad Wilfong of Arnold, Mo., Sean Lannom of St. Charles, Mo., and Dawna Lannom of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rhonda Darlene Lannom and Marilyn Wilfong; a son, Don Lannom; and a brother, Frank Carr.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at First Baptist Church in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Kidney Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or First Baptist Church in Jackson.
