Velma Crites, 92, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at her home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Jan. 10, 1930, in St. Louis to the late John and Naida Kistner Peek. She and John Crites were married Oct. 8, 1948, at Maple Avenue Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Velma graduated from Jackson High School in 1948, and married John in October of that year. She worked at Thorngate in Cape Girardeau for 22 years. She was a member of Eastern Star, and enjoyed playing pinochle with her pinochle club.
Velma was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a very loyal companion.
Survivors include two nieces, Kandy Peek and Janis Koch; three grandsons, Chris and Rob Foeste and David Crites; four great-grandchildren, Chase and Ryan Foeste and Cadie and Xoie Crites; and son-in-law, Mike Foeste.
Velma was preceded in death by her daughters, Cathy Crites and Jane Foeste; sister, Gladys Tuschoff; and brother, John Peek.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday, Dec. 21, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Linda Gastreich officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
