Velma Castleman

Velma Lee Maddox Castleman, 93, of Cape Girardeau and Houston died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at West Houston Medical Center.

Mrs. Castleman was born March 15, 1916, in Sharon, Tenn. She was one of six children of Willie Carmel Maddox and Emma Heathcock Maddox. She was married 69 years to the love of her life, William Etric Castleman.

Widowed in 2002, Mrs. Castleman was also preceded by a son, Jerry Dean Castleman.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty C. Lowry and husband Pat of Houston, Peggy Hahn and husband Robert of St. George, Utah; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The service will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood, Houston. The Rev. Bryan Butler will officiate. A private interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in Houston is in charge of arrangements.
