Vellen Patterson

ORAN, Mo. -- Vellen J. Patterson, 82, of Oran died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Mo.

She was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Casa, Ark., daughter of Zannie and Myrtle L. Moore Cody. She and Charlie Patterson were married Dec. 7, 1946. He died April 13, 1975.

Vellen retired as an inspector for the International Hat Factory in Oran. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Chaffee.

Survivors include a son, Dale (Debbie) Patterson of Chaffee; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Patterson of Oran; three grandchildren, Traci Shands and Brandon Patterson, both of Oran, and Garrett Patterson of Chaffee; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dane and Colin Shands of Oran; two brothers, William Cody and Sammy Cody of St. Louis; and a sister, Jannett Hampton of De Soto, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Leon Patterson; three brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Darren Larkin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Garden in Morley, Mo.
