Vallie M. Hawn, 96, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Monticello House in Jackson. She had lived at El Nathan Residential Care in Marble Hill the past three years. She was born Sept. 4, 1906, in Marquand, Mo., daughter of Robert L. and Jenny Cloninger Sitze. She and the Rev. Arvel Hawn were married Feb. 10, 1926, at Glenallen, Mo. He passed away April 8, 1972...

Vallie M. Hawn, 96, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Monticello House in Jackson. She had lived at El Nathan Residential Care in Marble Hill the past three years.

She was born Sept. 4, 1906, in Marquand, Mo., daughter of Robert L. and Jenny Cloninger Sitze. She and the Rev. Arvel Hawn were married Feb. 10, 1926, at Glenallen, Mo. He passed away April 8, 1972.

The Hawns farmed several years near Glenallen, moving to Jackson in 1954 where Vallie was a waitress at various restaurants. A devoted pastor's wife, she assisted her husband in his ministries in Wayne, Madison, Perry, Bollinger and Cape Girardeau counties.

As an active member of First Baptist Church in Jackson since 1954, she had worked in children's Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, JOY Choir and Women's Missionary Union.

Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Agatha Hawn of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Maxine Barrett (the late Sherman Barrett) of Marquand; two sisters, Vertis Mouser of Jackson and Lela Mouser of Glenallen.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Barbara Ford, Lloyd Barrett, Brenda Mueller, Pam Bandermann, Tim Patrick and Soni Crader; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, six sisters and a great-granddaughter.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Dr. John Englehart officiating. Burial will be in Old Trace Creek Cemetery in Bollinger County.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to El Nathan Residential Care in Marble Hill or First Baptist Church in Jackson.
