ADVANCE, Mo. -- Troy Denzel Garner, 92, of Advance passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at the Advance Nursing Center. He was born April 5, 1925, in Sank, Missouri, the son of Jonah James and Myrtle May Angel Garner. ADVANCE, Mo. -- Troy Denzel Garner, 92, of Advance passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at the Advance Nursing Center.

He was born April 5, 1925, in Sank, Missouri, the son of Jonah James and Myrtle May Angel Garner.

Troy was a farmer and had worked for the city of Advance as a police officer and in the maintenance department. He also worked in the timber industry as a logger.

He was a lifelong member of The Little Valley Independent Baptist Church near Dongola, Missouri.

Troy enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his passion was gardening.

Troy and Hazel V. Woodfin were united in marriage Sept. 9, 1944, in Bollinger County, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Garner; two sons, Denzel (Shirley) Garner of St. Louis and Kenneth (Marilyn) Garner of Knoxville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Freeman; four brothers; and a sister.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at The Little Valley Independent Baptist Church near Dongola.

Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. J.T. Null officiating. Burial will be at Bollinger County Memorial Park in Marble Hill, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Little Valley Independent Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

Morgan Funeral Home in Advance was in charge of arrangements.
