Tom H. Sawyer, age 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at the Missouri Veterans Home. He was a salesman for Missourian Office Supply from 1952 until his retirement. He had previously worked at Missouri Utilities from 1936 until 1947.
He was born on February 11, 1911 in Fruitland, Mo., the son of James H. and Clara R. (Reid) Sawyer. He married Alberta M. Ringer on November 11, 1933. Mr. Sawyer was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was a member of the American Legion, Kiwanis Club and the Golden Trooper Drum & Bugle Corps. He was a Scout Master for Troop 2. He served in the U.S. Navy during the World War II and the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Alberta M. Ringer; one daughter, Carolyn Lasky Manassas, Va.; four grandchildren, Tom S. Sawyer of Chicago, Ill., Chris Sawyer of St. Louis, Mo., Connie Neemann of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Pat Pittman of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two great grandchildren, Tyler Neemann of Va., Tabitha Watson of Va.; two sisters, Helen McNeely of Encino, Calif., and Maude Kinkaid of Salem, Mo. He was preceded in death by one son, Jim Tom Sawyer. Graveside rites will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August, 6, 1999, at Pleasant Hill Cemetary in Fruitland, Mo. The Rev. Jerry Statler will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel of Cape Girardeau.
