HOUSE SPRINGS, Mo. -- Thurman Gifford Statler, 81, formerly of Jackson, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at his home in House Springs.

He was born Nov. 7, 1919, at Sedgewickville, Mo., son of Melichi and Alie Statler. He and Goldie M. Barks were married June 29, 1939.

Statler had worked 25 years for Rockwell International as a specialist with atomic energy in Golden, Colo. After retiring in 1981, he and his wife moved back to Jackson. He was a member of the Fenton United Methodist Church and a former member of Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the men's club and served as a counselor for the MYF. Statler was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Statler was a member of VFW Post No. 3838 in Cape Girardeau and American Legion Post No. 158 in Jackson. He also worked with the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ray Statler of Rifle, Colo.; a daughter, Pansy McKinney of House Springs; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today. An American Legion honor guard service will be at 7 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. The Revs. Donald Blaylock and Michael Davis will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights cemetery in Jackson.
