Thurman Lee Shelton Jr., 69, of Jackson died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, when floodwaters swept his pickup truck into Crooked Creek at Marble Hill, Mo.
He was born March 1, 1939, in Harviell, Mo., son of Thurman Lee and Hazel Mae Goodwin Shelton Sr. He and Barbara Ann Foutch were married March 4, 1960, in Thebes, Ill.
Shelton was a pipefitter in the construction industry. He was formerly a Jackson police officer and detective, and in retirement was a park ranger at Lake Wappapello. He had been a scoutmaster for Troop 11 and an Optimist basketball and baseball coach in Jackson.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Tracy Shelton of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Bill Shelton of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Leona Johnson of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes, with the Rev. Shawn Wasson officiating.
