Thomas Benton Wood Jr., 71, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at the home of a brother in Jackson.
He was born Feb. 17, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, son of Thomas Benton and Dorothy A. Seabaugh Wood. Thomas attended Central High School in Cape Girardeau.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1965.
He tended bar and was a lineman several years at the former Tel-Line Co. in Cape Girardeau. He was a courier 37 years, retiring in 2007 from American Dispatch in Cape Girardeau. Thomas enjoyed music, especially singing and playing the guitar.
Loving survivors include his companion of 47 years, Pearl Karraker of East Cape Girardeau, Ill.; her children, Steve, Madalyn, Diane, Mary and their families; two sisters, Janet (Jerry) Klenn of Doniphan, Mo., and Cindy (Willard) Huffman of Whitewater; a brother, Eddie (Maggie) Wood of Jackson; nephews and nieces, Mark (Stephanie) Lemons, Angie (Ron) Schrum, Benton (Mindi) Wood and Cameron Wood; three aunts, Midge Miget and Reva McClain of Cape Girardeau and Shirley (Lyndon) Emmons of Paducah, Ky.; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Wood; and two nieces, Beth Rodgers and Natalie Wood.
A private family memorial service will be at a later date.
