MOUNDS, Ill. -- Thomas L. Nixon, 50, of Mounds died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Hospital in Owensboro, Ky.
He was born Dec. 6, 1949, in Cairo, Ill., son of Jay and Ruth Smoot Nixon. He and Ellie Nixon were married.
Nixon was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Navy. He was a member of the board of directors of the Pulaski-Alexander County Farm Bureau, as well as the Pulaski County Fair Association, Meridian School District 101, VFW, the Illinois Tractor Pulling Association and the American Tractor Pulling Association. His tractor was known in national competitions as "The Screamin' Demon."
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jennifer Nixon of Mounds; two sons, Forrest Nixon of Mounds and T.J. Nixon of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Dale Nixon of Monticello, Ill.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds after 3 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ralph Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski, Ill.
