Theodore R. Holmes, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at the Lutheran Home.
Holmes was born Sept. 22, 1920, at Essex, Iowa, son of Charles and Bessie Johnson Holmes. He and Carol J. Holmes were married July 22, 1951, at Red Oak, Iowa.
He was a veteran of World War II having been awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star. He was also a member of VFW 3838, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce. Holmes was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and had served on the church council and as its treasurer.
He retired in 1983 after 42 years with the Brown Shoe Fit Co.
Survivors are his wife; a son, Steven Eiler Holmes and a daughter, Cynthia Jo Austin, both of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Raymond Holmes of Essex and Paul Holmes of Longmont, Colo.; two sisters, Amy Bruland of Denver, Colo., and Pauline Frizell of Omaha, Neb.; and a grandchild.
Holmes was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Private memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Robert Klein officiating.
