Thelma B. Barenkamp, 88, 1416 Rose, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services.
She was born Sept. 8, 1908, in Elkville, Ill., daughter of Julius E. and Grace Crews Bechtlofft. She and Joseph Leo Barenkamp III were married Jan. 16, 1931, in Mound City, Ill. He died June 6, 1950.
Barenkamp attended a typographical college. She was a linotype operator at the Southeast Missourian Newspaper 39 years. She moved to Cape Girardeau in 1928, to Marked Tree, Ark., in 1937, and back to Cape Girardeau in 1950.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, Democratic Women's Club, and Business and Professional Women.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Spear and Sharon Barrows of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.
There is no visitation.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. Dr. Neil L. Stein will officiate, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
