The Rev. John D. Summers, 75, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born April 19, 1934, in Cape Girardeau, son of Elbert Orren and Bessie Mae Davis Summers. He was a Southern Baptist minister for 47 years, also pastor and member of the Sulphur City Baptist Church for 24 years. He was a retired barber and also a retired employee of Tyson Foods. The Rev. John D. Summers, 75, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

He was born April 19, 1934, in Cape Girardeau, son of Elbert Orren and Bessie Mae Davis Summers.

He was a Southern Baptist minister for 47 years, also pastor and member of the Sulphur City Baptist Church for 24 years. He was a retired barber and also a retired employee of Tyson Foods. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include three daughters, Debbie Rodgers and her husband Larry of West Fork, Ark.,Theresa Summers of Benton, Ark., and Jonna (Chris) Bryant of Fayetteville; three grandsons, Montana Prim of Springdale, Ark., Keith and Eric Rodgers of West Fork; a granddaughter, Natasha Prim of Springdale, and a great-granddaughter, Michelle Rodgers of Fayetteville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Summers; his parents; stepfather, Jess Barnhart; two brothers, Roy Summers and Dennis Summers; and a sister, Esther Taylor.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Moore's Chapel of Fayetteville.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Moore's Chapel. Burial will be in the Mineral Springs Cemetery.
