EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Rev. Herman Lee Wagner, 84, of Okemos, Mich., formerly of Puxico, died Friday at White Hill Nursing Home in East Lansing.
He was born July 14, 1911, in Mayfield, Ky., to the late William and Rosa Crowley Wagner.
On June 6, 1941, he married Rosa Lee Tinsley at Lilbourn.
He was a Methodist minister. He attended Southeast Missouri State University and Arkansas State University and received his theological training at the Missouri Pastors School and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University at Dallas. He became a licensed minister of the Methodist church in 1932 and was ordained in 1951 as an elder in the itinerant ministry. His active ministry of 42 years consisted of pastorates at Cooter, Lilbourn, East Prairie, Chaffee, Warrenton and Wesley Church in northwest St. Louis. He retired in 1974 to Puxico.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters: Margery Ann Trower of East Lansing and Lorraine Wagner Steele of Westland, Mich.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, five brothers and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Lilbourn Methodist Church, with the Revs. Steven Smith of Puxico and Glen Lashley of Poplar Bluff officiating. Burial will follow in the Mounds Park Cemetery in Lilbourn.
