OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Sylvia Smothers, 89, of Fairview Heights died Monday, March 22, 1999, at Day Star Care Center in Cairo.
She was born July 22, 1909, at Miller City, daughter of Calvin and Jane Pittman Miller. She and the Rev. Amos Lowe were married in July 1925. He died in April 1932. She later married Paul Smothers in August 1962. He died Feb. 5, 1992.
Smothers retired as a dietitian at Anna State Hospital. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church. She was formerly of Olive Branch.
Survivors include two daughters, LouDean Chamless of Fairview Heights, Phyllis Wilson of Olive Branch; a stepson, Wayne Smothers of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Calvin Miller of Palm Springs, Calif.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter, and five stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms from 5-9 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Revs. Jim Davis and Carl Hester will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.
