Sylvia Edwards

Sylvia Jane Edwards, 89, of Tulsa, Okla., died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at her home.

She was born Feb. 17, 1914, at Neelys Landing, daughter of Robert and Bertha Hargraves McCain. She and Homer Edwards were married Nov. 23, 1933, in Cape Girardeau. He died Nov. 10, 1990.

Edwards had worked at International Shoe Co. and at Tipton Laundry in Cape Girardeau, moving to Tulsa in 1960. She was a member of All the World Church in Collinsville, Okla.

Survivors include two sons, Rickie Edwards of Tulsa, Gene Edwards of Thebes, Ill.; four daughters, Roshella Shaffer and Susie Thompson of Tulsa, June French of Kearny, N.J., Julie Moore of Jackson; a brother, Alfred McCain of Tamms, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, six brothers and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
