GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. -- Sylvester "Vester" Andrew Klipfel, 80, of Glenwood Springs died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., following several months of illness. GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. -- Sylvester "Vester" Andrew Klipfel, 80, of Glenwood Springs died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., following several months of illness.

He was born Dec. 31, 1921, at Benton, Mo., son of Lawrence and Clara LeGrand Klipfel. He and Nellie Medlock were married.

Klipfel was a veteran of the U.S. Marines in the early 1940s. He was a veteran of the Air Force Reserves, serving active duty during the Korean War. He worked as a machinist foreman for McDonell Douglas in St. Louis for 29 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Martha Eftink of Oran, Mo., and Rita Jansen of Scott City, Mo.; a brother, Lawrence Klipfel Jr. of Benton; two daughters, Suzanne Brooks of St. Louis and Maureen York of Kansas City, Mo.; a son Larry Klipfel of St. Louis; five stepchildren, Mary McDonough, David Haage, Arlene Alterauge, all of Salem, Mo., Arthur Haage of Branson, Mo., and Ester Schafer of Lostant, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-mother, three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Spencer's Funeral Home in Salem after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Green Forests Cemetery in Salem.
