Sylvester Heisserer, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Landmark Hospital.
He was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Oran, Mo., son of Victor and Bertha Schott Heisserer. He and Alma Westrich were married Oct. 23, 1954, at St. Augustine Church in Kelso, Mo., by the Rev. Joseph Keusenkothen.
Heisserer graduated from Oran High School. He served in the Army Infantry during the Korean conflict.
He was a postal clerk 29 years with the U.S. Post Office in Cape Girardeau.
Heisserer was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Men's Club, and Knights of Columbus Council 1111. He was also a volunteer at Saint Francis Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherri (Mark) Jenkins of Kelso; a son, Bob (Cheri) Heisserer of Rogers, Ark.; a brother, T.S. Heisserer of Affton, Mo.; a sister, LaVerne Hartley of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Ryan Jenkins of St. Louis, Aaron Jenkins of Kelso, Jennifer Heisserer of St. Louis, Mitchell Heisserer of Rogers, and Matt Heisserer of Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jeff Heisserer, four brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m., with Knights of Columbus rosary immediately following.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with full military rites provided by Missouri Honors Team.
Memorials may be made to Notre Dame Regional High School Scholarship Fund or St. Vincent de Paul Parish Building Fund.
