Susan Gilley

MOUNDS, Ill. -- Susan Marie Gilley, 79, of Mounds passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at 3:10 a.m. surrounded by her family at her home.

Susan was born on Nov. 23, 1942, in Aurora, Illinois, to Virgil Marion and Lois Irene Schindler Stout. She married Bobby Ray Gilley on Aug. 23, 1963, and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2012.

Susan worked at Thor Power Tool for 14 years as a machinist. She was very proud of what she accomplished in this role. She retired to Mounds, to be near her father. She kept busy by working for BA Automotive in Paducah, Kentucky, as a secretary for 12 years. Susan was a very accomplished bowler. She was on several leagues and it became her passion. She also enjoyed crocheting and playing games with her family.

Susan is survived by her daughters, Kim (David) Gilley-Eberly, Debi Gilley-King, Beth Gilley-Rose; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Lois (Stan) Merema, Karen (Roy) Rodriguez, Richard (Margaret) Stout, William (Robyn) Stout, and Sandra Anderson.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Marion and Lois Irene Stout; and husband, Bobby Ray Gilley.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private memorial service, held by immediate family will take place at a later date.

Crain Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
