Steven Michael Proffer, 69, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at his home. Steve was a beloved father, papa, brother, son, uncle and friend.
He was born March 4, 1955, in Cape Girardeau, son of Ben F. and Mildred Nitsch Proffer.
Steve loved fishing, hunting and football, especially the Jacksonville Jaguars. He worked in the construction industry for many years and was involved in the building of many well-known restaurants throughout the area.
Loving survivors include his daughters, Eve Scott of St. Louis, Stephanie (Michael) Beattie of Cape Girardeau and Shelly Proffer of Jackson; brother, Ben (Diane) Proffer Jr. of Millersville; two sisters, Donna (Russell) Leadbetter of Millersville and Lisa Proffer of Jackson; and seven grandchildren, J.J., Cortavion, Quincy, Chloe, Ethan, Alex and Elliot.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday, May 4, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
The funeral will start at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, with the Rev. Don Estes officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
