MATTHEWS, Mo. -- Steven Michael "Spike" Brashear, 16, of Matthews died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Dec. 12, 1984, in Cape Girardeau, son of Michael Wayne and Kathy Ann Thompson Brashear.
Brashear was a junior at New Madrid County Central High School, where he was an honor student, member of Renaissance Club and Art Club, and played third base on the baseball team. He had been a member of Tiger, Cub and Boy Scouts, played Little League and intramural league basketball.
He worked part time at Sikeston Market Place and was a member of Crowe Congregational Methodist Church in Matthews.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Michael and Patricia Brashear of Sikeston, Mo.; his mother and stepfather, Kathy and Joe Sparks of Matthews; a brother, Kyle Brashear of Sikeston; a sister, Heather McDonald of Sikeston; maternal grandparents, Fairrell and Sarah Thompson of Matthews and Eunice Sparks of Malden, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Janie and Everett Taylor of Sikeston, Charles and Juanice Downs of Risco, Mo.; and paternal great-grandfather, Tom Bolin of Bernie, Mo.
He was preceded in death by two grandfathers.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5-9 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Bill McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery.
