SIKESTON, Mo. -- Stephen Wayne Woods, 61, of Sikeston died at 8:35 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born Nov. 1, 1949, in Cape Girardeau to the late James Stanly Woods, who preceded him in death Feb. 11, 2011, and his mother Maxine Marie Jenkins Woods, who survives in Sikeston.

He was a 1967 graduate of Sikeston High School where he played football for the Sikeston Bulldogs. He attended the University of Missouri-Rolla where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He was a former member of the Sikeston Jaycees and had been part of the entertainment committee of the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo for many years. He was a member of the Sikeston Elks Lodge, and was a former member of the board of directors at the Bank of Risco. He was the owner and operator of Woods Quick-Chek Market in Sikeston for 36 years and was also co-owner of Movietime in Sikeston for 26 years. He was a co-founder of Hi-Tech Communications, Inc. of Sikeston and was a loving husband, son, brother, father and grandfather.

He married Linda Susan Jenkins on May 14, 1994, in Sikeston and she survives of the home.

Besides his wife and mother, he is also survived by a son, Jimmy Woods of Sikeston; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellie Woods Collom and Glenn Collom of Benton, Mo.; a sister, Kaye Hathhorn of Cape Girardeau; and two grandchildren, Victoria Marie Collom and Levi Stephen Collom, both of Benton.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Nunnelee Chapel, with Rev. David Ross, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Sikeston, officiating.

Burial will follow in Forrest Hills Cemetery at Morley, Mo.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Sutton, Henry Dirnberger, Thom Henzi, Brad Bedell, Dennis Ziegenhorn and Glenn Collom. Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Brinson, Keith Kirk, Dennis Irwin, Sullivan Clark III and Gary Goodman.
