HIGHLAND, Ill. -- Stephen M. Ervin, 55, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Sunday, June 23, 1996, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland.
He was born Aug. 24, 1940, at Cape Girardeau, son of Woodrow Ancell and Virginia Lee Foeste Ervin. He and Joyce Helen Gerler were married Jan. 14, 1967, at St. Ann.
Ervin graduated from Oak Ridge High School and worked for the Olin Corp. at Wood River, Ill. He served in the Navy from 1961 to 1965. In 1971, he moved to Highland, and began working for Shell Oil Co. in 1978, as a pipefitter and welder.
He was a member of VFW Post 5694 at Highland and Local 555 of the Welders and Pipefitters Union. He was a former member of the Highland Bulldog Boosters Club.
Survivors include his wife of Highland; two sons, Kirt L. and Ronald W. Ervin, both of Highland; a daughter, Gale S. Nungesser of Highland; a grandson; a stepmother, Doris Wilson of Alton, Ill.; a stepfather, Howard Bartling of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a half sister, Teresa Walker of St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was preceded in death by an infant son.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and from 8-10 a.m. Wednesday at the Spangel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eugene D. Davidenas officiating.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Apple Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pocahontas.
