Stephanie Theresa Golas, 100, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Sept. 2, 1911, in Utica, N.Y., daughter of Joseph and Caroline Zajdel Nikodem. She and Walter E. Golas were married Aug. 11, 1940, in Utica. He passed away July 7, 1994.
Stephanie worked 20 years in the winding room at Harrocks Ibbotson, a fishing pole manufacturer in Utica. She moved from Utica to Jackson in 2004 to live with a daughter. She enjoyed crocheting, working crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Philip Pierce of Jackson; a sister, Freda Sarni of Maryland; two granddaughters, Michelle (David) Boyer of Edwardsville, Ill., Christina (Brett) Yemm of Brimfield, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Pierce Boyer of Edwardsville and Hannah and Katherine Yemm of Brimfield.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Sierak, Josephine Butt, Frances Nikodem; and two brothers, Adam and John Nikodem.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating. Interment and committal service will be at a later date in Utica.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Home or Alzheimer's Association.
