Stella Mae Simmons
GALE, Ill. -- Stella Mae Simmons, 82, of Gale died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at home.
She was born May 28, 1926, in Gale, daughter of Robert C. and Susie Snell Prewitt. She and James J. Simmons were married May 28, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. He died Aug. 16, 1994.
Simmons was a graduate of McClure High School in 1944. She lived all her life near Thebes, Ill. She and her husband owned and operated Jim's Convenient Mart in McClure, Ill.
She was a member of Church of God in Gale.
Survivors include two daughters, Kim Snell of Cape Girardeau and Becky Butcher of Imperial, Mo.; a brother, Ed Walters of Olmsted, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.
