JACKSON -- Stacy Preston Sims, 31, of Jackson died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 7, 1967, at Meridian, Miss., son of Ronald Edsel and Johnnie Gayle Pylate Sims.
Sims was a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Agency assigned to the Cape Girardeau office for two years. Prior to joining the DEA, he was employed as an investigator for the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department, the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, the Bootheel Drug Task Force and the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force. He was a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol from 1994 to 1996. He received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Southeast Missouri State University in 1993. In 1997, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the U.S. Attorney, Eastern District of Missouri.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville.
Survivors include his father, Ronald E. Sims of Caruthersville; his mother and stepfather, Gayle Gorham and Pat Gorham of Jackson; his paternal grandparents, John E. and Doris Sims of Meridian; his maternal grandparents, John W. and Eris Pylate Jr. of Caruthersville; a brother, Peyton Sims of Jackson; and two stepbrothers, Kevin Gorham of Lincoln, Neb., and Jay Gorham of Jackson.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Paul Currie will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
