SPENCER JONES

JACKSON -- Spencer C. Jones, 91, of Jackson died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at his home.

He was born Sept. 24, 1906, in Perry County, son of Columbus H. and Elizabeth Holmes Jones. He and Ethel G. Morton were married April 18, 1929. She died Nov. 9, 1985.

Jones was employed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 25 years, retiring in 1958. He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Spencer Jones of Gulfport, Miss., Dean Jones of Jackson, Joe Jones of Clyde, Ohio, Gary Jones of Springfield; four daughters, Eulene Davenport of Page, Ariz., Shirley Englehart and Patsy Langston of O'Fallon, Dorothy Farrow of Washington, Ill.; four brothers, Phillip Jones of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Coy Jones of St. Louis, Arnold Jones of Houston, Texas, Warren Jones of Mission, Texas; a sister, Laura Strange of Salem; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, a grandchild, and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Scott Lohse and David Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
