PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Sondra Kay Foster, 77, of Perryville passed away Monday, July 6, 2020, at Independence Care Center in Perryville.
She was born April 28, 1943, in Cape Girardeau to Leonard H. and Margaret L. Calhoun Patrick. She and Robert S. Foster were married June 17, 1960, at the home of her uncle in Cape Girardeau.
Kay attended Cape Girardeau Central High School.
Her joy was her family. She and Robert had two children, Keith and Karen. She was dedicated to the well-being and betterment of her entire family unit. She liked being the "family matriarch," coordinating all family functions and taking care of all the emergencies. She was a caregiver for her aging parents and Robert's aging parents. After the passing of their parents, she and Robert had a few years to accomplish some of their personal goals -- building a new home on the family farm, traveling to Alaska, and making outdoor furniture, crosses and bird feeders.
In 2000, she became a proud "grannie," which gave her a new role to fulfill. She was able to help her family as needed until 2017, when her health began to decline due to dementia, causing her to transition to the nursing home.
Loving survivors include her husband of 60 years, Robert Foster of Perryville; two children, Keith (Becky) Foster of Perryville and Karen (Jason) Reece of Jackson; a grandson, Robert Reece of Jackson; two sisters, Polly (Jerry) Huckstep of Jackson and Phyllis "Pete" (the late Terry) Huckstep of Jackson; a brother-in-law, J.D. (the late Jo Ann) Houseman of Springfield, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings, Larry (Margaret) Patrick and Brenda Sue Koehler; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Pauline Foster.
In Kay's memory, there will be a private gathering at the family farm. Cremation was accorded by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the church or charity of your choice.
